My name is Sanaa Abduljabbar, I’m originally from Iraq . I have lived in Portland since 2010 with my husband, two sons and my sister. I have a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology and Education from The University Of Mosul / Iraq. I speak Arabic, Kurdish and English. In Iraq, I was a Middle School and High School Biology teacher.
I have been working with The Opportunity Alliance since 2014 as a Neighborhood Connector, which gave me a chance to serve as a bridge between Iraqi mothers, their children, the schools, Riverton Park and other resources.
We are also building good relationships with diverse groups of neighbors. I have been involved as a member of The Center for Grieving Children’s Intercultural Advisory Council (IAC) since 2012, which provides services to particular members of the local refugee community who have experienced trauma from war or other events. I have a passion to serve, support and encourage New Mainers to find the convenient resources.
MAIN enables me to continue to pursue this path and achieve my goals to serve different cultures and connect more people to the appropriate resources that they need and deserve in the greater Portland Community. I appreciate working with MAIN because it gives me the opportunity to help my community work through similar challenges that I have experienced and overcame.
